Almost a year since we've moved home...

I miss picking out paint, fixtures and figuring out what goes where in the house. What's a girl to do? Robert and I have talked about doing it all over again. Are we crazy?? I think so!!!

Our house...then & now!

This is a great picture to show you where we've been. The top photo is when my Grandfather owned the house. The bottom, is a fairly recent picture. You might notice we have grass now!!! YEAH. A nice combination of grass and dirt. The grass is a wonderful addition to the nice dirt we had been looking at for months. We recently received a letter from the city stating we have 30 days to plant a beautiful Oak tree on the boulevard. So a tree we will see...in about 25 days. How exciting. Small steps.

The Kitchen

 

We still have a few things left to do. But we love our kitchen!! We spend almost all of our time in the greatroom. We have had a few parties and everyone loves how open the room is. I still think about the cabinets that I truly wanted and wonder if the ebony island color is right, but I'm happy!! I'm super happy on Saturday and Sunday mornings when Robert has his pancake shack open. The girls love it too.

Not what we expected...

Now that the project is coming to closure, there is a small list of items that were done differently. They were still done nicely, but not what we expected. I'm been keeping track of them and plan on documenting them for Craig and Gary. Two things that are on the top of my mind are the powder room flooring and my cabinets. Still love my house, but it should be noted in a project plan.

The Inspector is coming...

Well it sounds like he came today and cleared everything! So we are are just waiting on a few things. The painters came today to finish the touch up, the cleaner was at the house when we left to clean up after the painters....Lawrence the Glass Guy aka "The Rocker" came today to measure our kitchen cabinets that need glass and he also measured our office desks and the buffet. The outside kitchen will be the last thing to be finished...well that and the landscape.

Coming to a closure...

I hope at least. We are getting close to the completion of our reno. It's been a roller coaster ride. Overall I loved it, but I'm over it. We are able to cook now. I'm so excited. I just need to find our pots. They are somewhere in the garage. We have about 50 boxes to unpack. The cabinet doors and drawers should be installed today or tomorrow. (I was told the beginning of the week, which means the end of the week) The electrical is almost done. We have great lighting. Once we figure out which switch goes to which light...and better yet, when we get our structure wiring complete...the lighting will ROCK! Bill and his team did a great job. It will be nice to be able to clean the house from top to bottom. It's amazing how dirty the house gets with all the in and out traffic. Not sure what's in store for the house this weekend, but I think the outdoor kitchen is getting ready to get the granite and stone completed.

The island...

Magical moments will happen here. Dinners, late night snacks, homework, cookie making, wine parties and much more. Here is our naked island sans its antiqued granite and ebony paint...

Cabinet Install

The cabinets arrived last week and have been installed. The house is coming along very nicely. I'm so excited to see the final project. Excited and exhausted. Here are a few pictures of the cabinets. They sit and wait for primer tomorrow. I didn't really think much of it, but once the cabinets were installed, the painters have to come and pull the cabinets all apart. Then they tape the rooms off so the paint won't get all over the place. It's crazy! Here they sit and await for the big day tomorrow. YEAH!!

Cabinet Doors

So the cabinets are installed. They are beautiful, but it was not the door I wanted. There was some confusion with the cabinet guy and me. He had the name I wanted and then it was crossed off. HMMMM!! They are truly beautiful. I could change the doors, but he said that the ones in question are 50% more. I already went over budget, so I am going to live with them. They are nice, they really are! It just was not what I was expecting. I suggested to the cabinet guy that he might want to have a sheet/paper available for both parties to sign off on. It would have all the available options for the cabinets (pull outs, corbels, soft close drawers/doors, CABINET DESIGN NAME etc) This way there would be no, "he said she said". I'm still happy, but I wonder if my happiness is tainted with the long project and I am just ready to be done.

The Cabinets are here!!

My neighbor just called and said they are delivering our cabinets as we speak! YES, YES, YES!!! The beginning of my dream kitchen. More details to come. Pictures too.
